The World gold market and investing in gold

The main aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyze the current situation on the World gold market and describe the factors that influence this market. It also focuses on interpreting the possibilities of an investor who decides to enter the gold market. The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter describes the properties of gold, its occurrence, its use and historical significance. The second chapter focuses on the evolution of the World gold market, more precisely on the supply and demand of gold. At the end of this chapter, is described the development of the world's gold price over the last 20 years and the factors that affect the price. The last chapter discusses the possibilities to invest in gold and what advantages and disadvantages the investment can bring.

Global Economy Outlook - November 2015

This issue of Global Economic Outlook presents its regular overview of recent and expected developments in selected territories, focusing on key economic variables: inflation, GDP growth, leading indicators, interest rates, exchange rates and commodity prices. It contains analysis Central banks’ gold reserves. This article sets out to summarise the facts about the role of gold in central banks’ reserves. Despite having lost its unique status in the international monetary system, gold maintains a strong position not only with central banks, but also with private investors thanks to its ability to reduce systemic risk and preserve value. The following paragraphs therefore outline the role of gold in the reserves of central banks and the IMF. Some countries – e.g. China, Russia and India – are currently seeking to change the role of gold in their economies and in the financial system as a whole. This phenomenon is therefore also dealt with in this article.

Price elasticity of demand for gold in the European market and its determinants

This paper examines the relationship between the gold price and quantity demanded of the commodity in the European market. The aim of the thesis was to estimate the price elasticity of demand for gold in the short and long term and identify its determinants on the European market using OLS. Both static and dynamic forms of model are used and tested. This paper uses extensive dataset in form of monthly time series and in form of quarterly time series for the period from October 1996 to December 2013, and for the period from first quarter of 1991 to first quarter of 2002 respectively. According to the models the price elasticity of demand for gold seems to be elastic.

The main aim of the thesis is to analyze the gold market which is influenced mainly by the world gold price. The thesis describes current trends in the gold market, the biggest gold consumers and countries with the largest gold holdings.

Hong Kong: economic expansion during 1945-1965

Hong Kong is one of the most interesting and most dynamic economies in global scope. Country, which at 19. century began development as a small British trading colony has changed into economic superpower during few years. Hong Kong reached it despite hostile conditions -- absence of minerals, dense population, hostile neighboring countries or great distance of potencial trading partners. I will focus on the period after Second World War until 1965, the period of essential economic growth. I will mainly explore the reasons of these positive stimuls, relationship with China, principles of banking system, stock exchange and position of Hong Kong as a financial centre in international scope. All will be clarified by real economic indicators as tables and graphs, which I will analyse and deduce rules of successful economic development, which should be in general inspirative for developing economies.

Obsahuje jednotlivé kroky, které musí drobný investor podniknout, aby byl na tomto trhu úspěšný. Pozornost je také věnován nabídce, poptávce a tvorbě ceny komodit. Důraz je kladen na popis účastníků trhu a jejich chování, možnosti vstupu na obchodní parket, finanční instrumenty i společnosti, které se obchodováním zabývají. Praktická část je zaměřena na konkrétní možnosti investování do těchto komodit.

Obsahuje krátký pohled do historie prvních obchodů s těmito surovinami a vznik prvních komoditních burz. Dále pak je pozoronost věnována tvorbě ceny, nabídky a poptávky těchto dvou drahých kovů. Celá práce je orientována na drobného investora. Důraz je kladen na popis účastníků trhu, možnosti vstupu na obchodní parket, finanční instrumenty i společnosti, které se obchodováním zabívají. Praktická část práce je zaměřená na konkrétní možnosti investování do těchto komodit.
